Pharmacotherapeutic group

A medicinal product primarily used in gynecology.

Pharmacological properties

Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita L., syn. Matricaria chamomilla L.) contains 0.2–0.8% essential oil, including chamazulene. It also contains terpenes, sesquiterpenes, cadinene, farnesene, the sesquiterpene alcohol bisabolol, caprylic acid, and isovaleric acid. It has anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, antiseptic, mildly astringent, analgesic, sedative, anticonvulsant, diaphoretic, and choleretic effects. Chamomile essential oil has disinfectant and diaphoretic effects, relieves pain, reduces inflammatory processes, and normalizes impaired gastrointestinal function. Chamomile preparations accelerate epithelial regeneration in experimental ulcers and delay the development of inflammation.

Calendula flower extract (Calendula officinalis flower extract) combines numerous beneficial properties. It contains carotenoids — pigments necessary for vitamin A production; sterols — alcohols structurally similar to cholesterol, which may be absorbed instead of cholesterol and contribute to lowering its level. Calendula flower extract is a source of significant amounts of triterpenoids, including glycosides of oleanolic acid, which have a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. Flavonoids help relieve smooth-muscle spasms; essential oils and coumarins are also present. Calendula acts as an emollient and has soothing and anti-inflammatory effects. It is used therapeutically as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing agent.

Walnut (Juglans regia, family Juglandaceae) is a valuable medicinal plant containing proteins, fats, and biologically active substances. It contains organic and phenolcarboxylic acids, flavonoids, a large amount of ascorbic acid (up to 2%), vitamins, carotenoids, quinones, tannins, and minerals. Flavonoids have antitumor activity as well as antiviral and antimicrobial effects, which are relevant to the treatment of hemorrhoids, proctitis, and other proctological diseases.

Sea buckthorn oil (Oleum Hippopheae) stimulates reparative processes in the skin and mucous membranes, accelerates healing of damaged tissues, and has an anti-inflammatory effect. It has antioxidant and cytoprotective effects; due to fat-soluble bioantioxidants, it reduces the intensity of free-radical processes and protects cellular and subcellular membranes from damage.

Indications for use

KLOFANMAX suppositories are recommended for the treatment of certain female diseases: inflammatory and non-infectious diseases of the vagina and perineum; sexually transmitted infectious diseases, including bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis, and trichomoniasis. During menopause, they are effective for atrophic colpitis and vaginal dryness. They are used as part of complex therapy for endometritis, endocervicitis, and salpingo-oophoritis. KLOFANMAX accelerates tissue recovery after cauterization of the cervix for erosion. It is also effective in inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract, such as urethritis and cystitis. KLOFANMAX helps restore the natural vaginal mucosa.
